We are India’s Children: Gift an Education

It takes a community to raise a child

Rani, 14 years old, dropped out of school. Her mother, a sex worker struggling to make ends meet, could not afford her education anymore. The team from a community organisation supported by Swasti counseled Rani and her mother, and offered necessary support to keep her in school. Today Rani is working hard and is focussed on doing well. This gives her a chance to break out of poverty that her family currently faces.

Swasti works with women in difficult circumstances in 5 States. The 1.1 Lakh children of these women are often denied basic rights and services. 87,138 children are between the ages of 5 and 19. Of these, 17,589 children are not enrolled into formal education.

What are we doing?

We are helping the children with scholarships so that they can stay in school or return to school. We conduct a thorough screening of all requests for support including house visits. The academic progress of those who receive scholarships is tracked and regular updates are sent to the respective donors.
